It’s that time of year, when librarians across the United States scramble to make sure summer programming is in place.
Well, actually, I was scrambling about six months ago, but it feels more immediate when the program is UPON ME. This is my first summer at the rudder (with plenty of help from our Youth Services Department Supervisor, Debbie!) of our Young Adult Summer Discovery Program, and it’s been a wild ride – from purchasing prizes to making sure the program is functioning to helping the kids choose books to read, it’s been busy!
New for this year for the teens is a reading list that touches on the theme of our program, Libraries Rock. All the books either have musical themes or a reference to music in the title. Books on the list (when they’re not checked out) are on our display shelf til the end of July.
Don’t forget that our prize auction will be July 15! You can peruse the list of prizes and decide what you’re reading for. There’s still plenty of time to sign up and bank enough Bucks for your favorite.
In other news, our regularly scheduled Teen & Tween activities will be returning August 14, the week after school begins for Plymouth Community Schools, and will run as follows:
Monday: Tween Book Club – a read-aloud and discussion time for ages 10-14. Beginning at 4 pm.
Tuesday: Craft Corner – fun, hands-on crafts that are way more than just construction paper and glue. Beginning at 4 pm.
Wednesday: Study Time! – Got some homework that needs finishing? Have a question about that essay due next week? Now’s the time. I’m always willing to help. After school until 6pm.
Thursday: Popcorn Night – Blow off some steam! We’ll turn on the Nintendo Switch, make as much popcorn as you care to eat, and play some tunes (all requests, all the time – see me at the Nook Desk for details and to request songs)! After school until 6pm.
Friday: TGIF – We’re all thankful the week is over, so let’s celebrate by doing…
absolutely nothing! The Nook is always open, but nothing special’s happening on Fridays.
