I have always been a big fan of stand-up comedy. As far back as I can remember, I’ve enjoyed watching and listening to comedians tell jokes and share funny stories. PPL used to have a few “Spoken Arts” CD’s, that I checked out multiple times. Thanks to those, I discovered comedy legends like Jeff Foxworthy and Steve Martin, and listened to them repeatedly. My love of stand-up grew from renting VHS tapes at local video stores as a teen, to listening to “Bob and Tom” on the radio every morning. I’ve been a “Bob and Tom” V.I.P. member going on 6 years now, and my days often just don’t feel right unless I listen to their show. In recent years, I have been able to attend many live comedy shows, and have seen big names like Jerry Seinfeld and Dave Attell, along with lesser known comedians like Indiana’s own Jeff Bodart. I have seen Jeff perform live five times (and counting), and highly recommend him if he is performing in your area!
I use Hoopla primarily to watch movies, read graphic novels/books, and listen to music, so imagine my surprise when I discovered they have stand-up comedy videos available! Hoopla is great in that they break things down into different categories for you. While browsing one day, I spotted a “stand-up comedy” tab, which turned up over 130 results!
Just like with their other categories, stand-up on Hoopla has something to offer for just about everyone. There are “clean” comedians, comedians that are for a mature audience, and comedians that are raunchy and vulgar – if you’re ok with that sort of thing! I like a little bit of everything when it comes to comedy, and have never had a problem when it comes to language/content.
I was very happy to discover that Hoopla has not only well-known comedians, but lesser known ones that you might not know unless you were already familiar with stand-up comedy. I found specials by regular “Bob and Tom” favorites/guests such as Nick Griffin, Al Jackson, Nick Thune, and others. Other than hearing them on the radio, I’ve never seen any of their stuff before and now thanks to Hoopla, I can finally watch them perform – for free!
As for other comedians that are available, here are some names that may catch your eye: Brian Posehn, Sam Kinison, George Carlin, Tom Segura, Doug Stanhope, Maria Bamford, Jeff Dunham, Gabriel Iglesias, and Jim Breuer. All have stand-up specials available to watch for free on Hoopla, along with many other comedians that you may know.
Now that I know Hoopla has free stand-up specials available, I know what I’m going to be using some of my 18 allotted monthly checkouts for!
Laugh your socks off!
