Last meeting, we discussed Angie Thomas’s The Hate U Give. It’s a heavy book with lots of difficult themes of identity, race, and violence. We discussed what THUG LIFE meant to Starr, how the family dealt with the constant threat of violence around their home, Starr’s double identity in her neighborhood and school, and how this book connects to one of our other book club selections, The Other Wes Moore by Wes Moore.
